Vagabond Reporters' Activities:
The idea of Vagabond Reporters Intenational arises in May 2007, in Burma during a beautiful walk along the bridge that cuts through the lake situated north of Mandalay.
From a simple idea,
the project transformed into a concrete reality. Initially by the writing of
articles and eventually with the creation of films, the
Vagabond Reporters can boast of covering, at an International level, stories and
disaters
that afflict the countries of the Third World. Articles published in both Italy and
America, documentaries screened in cinemas and festivals, video reportages aired
on American television are the maximum results of such dedicated commitment.
Catelog of activities:
May 2007 Gianrigo and Jennifer travel to Burma with the intention of writing articles about the formally unknown situation of oppression and violence in the country. Written words are not enough ... and soon, the idea of a documentary arises.
June-July 2007 In Thailand, at the border with Burma, the two edit the footage captured. Burma, Jewels and Wounds is born.
June 15, 2007 vagabondreporters.com is created.
July 15, 2007 The Vagabond Reporters present THE PREMIERE OF THE DOCUMENTARY in the small border town of Mae Sot. Attending were over 50 people consisting of volunteers, doctors and filmmakers committed to the work of international N.G.O.'s.
August 2007 The Vagabond Reporters transfer to Cambodia where they reside for a few months in a small apartment in Phnom Penh. Here they begin their relationship with Current TV, a television station created by Al Gore. "The Children of Phnom Penh" film reportage is presented to Current and they acquire it with enthusiasm.
September-October 2007 Vagabond Reporters produce another reportage, this time on the Khmer-American refugees who were deported from the U.S. to Cambodia. Current TV purchases this also.
November 2007 Burma, Jewels and Wounds is accepted to the " Asiatica Film Mediale ", a prestigious film festival in the heart of Rome that explores diverse Asian topics. The screening was on the 21st of November, 2007.
December 2007 The Vagabond Reporters are approached by a group of university students reunited under an association called Free Burma Italy in which they organized two events:
-Screening plus conference at the Giulio Cesare high school in Rome where hundreds of students are present.
-Screening plus conference at the University La Sapienza di Roma.
12th December 2007 The Vagabond Reporters present once more the documentary on Burma at the Palazzo Valentini, House of the Provincia di Roma (City Hall), in occasion of the Week for Peace and Human Rights.
21st February 2008 The Vagabond Reporters are guests on "Step Up with Jeremy Taylor", a talk show dedicated to raising awareness about human rights world wide.
Summer/Spring 2008 The V.R. are working on the making of a new documentary about Burma. The movie is scheduled to be relised in the U.S. in winter 2009.
